KING SOLOMON HICKS

SUNDAY, JULY 9TH, 4PM - 78TH STREET PLAYSTREET (TRAVERS PARK)

SOLOMON HICKS HAS BEEN CALLED ‘LIL’ B.B. KING, EAST MONTGOMERY, AND KING SOLOMON BY HIS FANS FROM NYC, NATIONALLY AND NOW INTERNATIONALLY.

He is the real deal…the next best thing out of New York City. Solomon has been in the biz since age 13 as the lead guitarist and performer at the Cotton Club, with a 13-piece band. He recorded his first CD, Embryonic, at age 14 with the Cotton Club All-Star Band.

Solomon is also at B.B. King’s, Minton’s Playhouse, Terra Blues (in the Village), The Garage, Red Rooster, Shanghai Jazz (in New Jersey), Jazzmobile (Jazz Shrines), Settepani, Iridium, Gran Piatro (Jazz on the 5th), Ginny’s Supper Club, Harlem Arts Alliance events and many other clubs in the Tri-State Area.

JAVIER ARAU

Javier Arau (born September 30, 1975) is an American composer, saxophonist, conductor, theorist, author, and entrepreneur.  He is the founder and executive director of New York Jazz Academy, a popular New York City music school, leads the Javier Arau Jazz Orchestra, and is the author of several works on music theory and improvisation. Arau has been featured in The New York Times and DownBeat Magazine and was the cover artist of the July/August 2009 Saxophone Journal. His compositions have received awards from ASCAP, BMI, DownBeat Magazine, and IAJE, and are published by UNC Jazz Press and Dorn Publications.

Flutist Haruna Fukazawa, guitarist Shu Odamura and bassist Akihiro Yamamoto combine jazz tradition with a chamber ensemble approach to arranging and composition in this unique and captivating trio

Bassist Ed Fuqua, saxophonist Javier Arau, and drummer Pete Zimmer, will make their debut performance as a trio at the JH Jazz Festival 2017, at the neighborhood's cultural hub Espresso 77.
